It today’s marketplace, social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube have changed the way we build our MLM businesses.  Social media sites are perfect for building relationships and networking on the Internet and that is what the the MLM industry is all about.  The biggest advantage of social media sites is that they allow you to build more relationships and network with more people, 10x faster than you could offline.

With that said, most network marketers are not having any success using this form of marketing, however it’s because they don’t understand how social media works and how to leverage it to build their businesses.  These sites are designed to build relationships, connect with people, and share things as you would if you were at a social gathering.  To use social media effectively, it is important that you keep this in mind at all times.  Simply put, there is a right way to use social media marketing and there is a wrong way.

The wrong way to use social media sites, the way most network marketers use them, is to just promote promote promote and sell sell sell.  If you join all of these social media sites just to go around and leave comments and add friends just to keep pitching your opportunity, that is what we call spamming.  When you do it this way you are just hurting your reputation and making yourself look bad.  This is why most network marketers don’t have any success with social media, because they are doing it all wrong.  You must build the relationship or following first, before you every try and sell them or promote your opportunity.

If people think you are just there to promote your opportunity, and they will if you approach it that way, they will have no reason to follow you and connect with you.  Be yourself.  The most important thing you can do is let people know that you are a real person and maybe post or tweet about your opportunity once in a while, this way if someone is interested they will come to you because you are not trying to sell them anything.  Once they initiate conversation about your opportunity, only then is it ok to provide them more information because they’ve asked for it.

Another important thing to remember is to have the attitude of giving without expecting anything in return.  This is crucial to your social media marketing.  This is one thing that I know for a fact most network marketers do not do and the reason is that they are looking for fast results.  If you want to get results with social media, you have to think long-term and do it right.

Think of it this way…if you are branding yourself as a leader in the industry and sharing your knowledge and value with the people you are connecting with without expecting them to join you in return, they WILL see that and it will attract more people to you.  If you approach social media the right way, over time you will have more leads for your MLM business then you know what to do with.
